Fayetteville Public Schools recently hosted AVID Night, a special celebration honoring all AVID students, with a spotlight on the Class of 2025.🎓 Families had the opportunity to learn more about the AVID program, Advancement Via Individual Determination, and hear powerful stories from current students about how the program has impacted their academic journeys and personal growth.
AVID is a global nonprofit organization committed to closing the opportunity gap and preparing all students for college and career readiness. During the event, seniors completing the AVID program were proudly awarded their graduation cords in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

🌍Earth Day is almost here and the Fayetteville High School Eco Fashion Club kicked things off with a Clothing Swap, where students explored a model thrift store and got to “shop” for new-to-them clothing items. Along the way, they learned about the positive impact of choosing secondhand fashion and how small choices can make a big difference for our planet. 👕♻️

🌱 Holcomb Elementary School fourth graders had a great day at Apple Seeds, Inc. farm! From picking fresh vegetables to cleaning, preparing, and cooking them, our students got hands-on experience with healthy eating and learning where food comes from. 🥕🥬
They ended the day by enjoying a nutritious and delicious snack they helped make!

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission visited Asbell Elementary, bringing along a mobile aquarium filled with a variety of native fish species. Students were excited to learn about the diverse fish found in Arkansas's lakes and rivers and enjoyed observing them up close. Thank you to Fishing Education Specialist Mallory Woodward for sharing her exceptional knowledge and expertise during the visit.

Root Elementary third graders in Mrs. Haye’s class took learning to the great outdoors with a nature hike scavenger hunt at Kessler Mountain Nature Center and Outdoor Classroom! 🏕️🔍

Fayetteville High School students went all in for a great cause, raising over $1,500 for Special Olympics Arkansas! 🏅🎉
As a reward for their fundraising success, students got to drench participants with buckets of ice-cold, freezing water. Superintendent Dr. Mulford and Dr. Miller joined in on the fun! 🥶💦
Every year, thousands take the polar bear plunge into icy waters to support inclusion and opportunity for over 19,500 Special Olympics athletes across the state. All in the spirit of giving back and making a difference.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Woodland Junior High School was held today on a sunny and windy afternoon. Ramay Junior High School hosted an inspiring AVID College and Career Assembly, led by FPS AVID Director Lauren Parker, with a special focus on historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs)!🎓✨
The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Dr. Kristina Hudson, Executive Director of Secondary Education, as she introduced her sister and keynote speaker, Myra McKenzie-Harris. Myra shared her powerful story, speaking beautifully and eloquently about perseverance, self-advocacy, and the importance of support in achieving success.
Students had the opportunity to engage with a distinguished professional panel, asking thoughtful questions and gaining valuable insights. The panel featured Dr. Flanigan, Principal of George Junior High School and panel facilitator, Mr. and Ms. Trussell, proud alumni of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, Dr. Colbert, former superintendent of Fayetteville Public Schools, and Mr. Long, a dedicated military representative.

What an unforgettable night at Leverett Elementary School’s 125th anniversary celebration! The turnout was incredible, and it truly felt like a big family reunion. 💜
From square dancing to a delicious family style dinner, crafts, and an amazing display of Leverett memorabilia, there was something for everyone!
The oral history station was a special highlight, where alumni shared their memories that were recorded for the Pryor Center for posterity. 🎥✨

Holcomb Elementary School brought the Amazon Rainforest to life with an inspiring, schoolwide STEAM and arts integration project!🌿 Each grade created a rainforest layer using recycled materials, UV-reactive art, and glowing UV lights.
